Rss Feeds
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
We remind you that Gleni’s blog is originally written in English (www.gleni.it/blog/) and that the version you are about to read (if the version you are reading is not english) has been generated by an automatic translator.
If you want to keep up to date with a blog or a website there are several methods you can use.
Many people still do it by visiting the site they are interested in every day, to check if any new articles have been added. This works insofar as they will find the news they are interested in, but what a long time it takes! And so much effort!
Moreover, with so many interesting resources to be found on the net, it is often very difficult if not impossible, to keep up with all the latest news that you’d like to.
RSS comes to your rescue here, as through this system, every time any information is posted on any blog (RSS feed) that you are interested in, it will immediately be picked up and collected in one place, so that you can see all the updates of the sites you follow in one place whenever you want!
RSS stands for the self-explanatory – Really Simple Syndication. The information you get via RSS is also called an RSS feed. With RSS, you can also choose to receive a shortened version of the latest blog post as a preview, that comes with a link to access the full post on the blog itself.
RSS feeds are managed by ‘program aggregators‘, more commonly known as RSS readers, which monitor updates to a site and send them immediately to whoever has registered for this service. These programs can be incorporated in a browser (e.g. My Yahoo, Bloglines, Newsgator), or be separate programs.
A feed aggregator, also known as feed reader, news reader or, simply, aggregator, is a software or a Web application that collects web content such as news headlines or blog posts in one place for convenient reading.
How can you subscribe to our RSS feed?
All our visitors can easily subscribe to our RSS feed. Let’s see how:
- The first thing you need is an RSS reader. There are many versions available: some of them are included in browsers, while others can be downloaded separately. All of them allow you to subscribe to and read all the RSS feeds that you want.
Some browsers like Firefox, Opera and Safari even have features that identify the RSS feed for you.
All readers usually allow you to download these versions completely free. It just depends on your own preferences and personal tastes to decide which will be the most suitable program for you (for example you could start by trying Google Reader).
N.B. If something is not clear to you or you prefer not to use an RSS reader, don’t worry as you can still subscribe and receive RSS feeds via a simple e- mail.
- In the right column of our blog, as well as after each post, you will see an orange button (the standard RSS feed button);
Click on this button to open the subscribe page, where you will find a list of the most popular RSS readers used worldwide.
Look for the button of the reader you prefer using and click on it to add our blog feed to your reader.
On the same page you can also subscribe to receive our feed simply via email.
What is the difference between a RSS subscription and any other kind of subscription?
If we compare the RSS feeds with any other type of subscription, such as a newsletter, one advantage of RSS feeds there is no need to leave your e-mail address, and consequently , there is no risk of receiving spam or viruses, and above all, you don’t need to worry that your e-mail address could be used by third parties for other unwanted communications.
You can get so many e-mails in your inbox with newsletters and mailers that, very often you ignore them or delete them altogether, whether accidentally or deliberately. RSS feeds on the other hand go straight to your RSS-reader, which keeps all the new posts and updates conveniently in one place for you to read at your leisure and allows you to see each new item immediately it is posted, so, if you like, you can keep right up-to-date on all the latest developments.
Newsletters should usually be directed to a specific customer but it often happens that these services are not properly managed by the owners of blogs or sites, so that visitors can end up being confused rather than enlightened. RSS feeds, on the other hand, do not need any further preparation or customization, but are automatically sent out every time a blog or website is updated.
